Supporting statement for Grazia Scotellaro
I have known Grazia on a professional basis for twelve years, having worked with her as a co-tutor in the unit Technology and Education in 2001, a large enrolment unit offered to students in the Faculty of Education. The unit was revised and Grazia became the unit convener and in that role I interacted with her over the years, because I work in the Teaching and Learning Centre and liaise with academic staff across the University.  It is on that basis that I make the following comments.
Grazia has a strong and enthusiastic commitment to using technology to enhance learning and teaching and she shares this with students and with her colleagues. What distinguishes her professional practice is innovation: she is particularly conversant with current trends in technology, is keenly aware of affordances that these technologies offer in a learning sense and implements them in her own teaching.  However, she goes further than that and is able to convey her enthusiasm and knowledge to colleagues.  I can clearly recall her talking about the code for embedding YouTube clips in teaching many years ago. I attended her session in the recent 2011 Moodleposium in Canberra where she talked about widgets, conducting evaluations of websites with students and creating a site for the Italian embassy in her spare time. After talking with her I came away with one of the best ideas I took from the conferences: the use of Nanogong, a voice recording system that can be integrated in  Moodle to facilitate spoken feedback on assessment. Grazia is an educational change agent who makes a significant contribution to professional staff development in the use of learning technologies.
